Is Memorisation of Yogas an Effective Approach to Understand a Chart?

How often we come across one saying , I have a gajakesari yoga but I still have problems , My malaviya yoga does not work , I have lakshmi yoga but I do not have enough money ? Let us try and understand:

Etymology of Yoga – The word, Yoga, that has been derived from the sankrit word root, Yuj, meaning to join properly.Yogas are formed when one planet, sign or house is related to another of the same kind or different kind by way of placement, aspect or conjunction. There are various classical and contemporary vedic astrology literature comprising of hundreds of these yogas and most of the astrologers tend to just apply these yoga to a chart hoping that the chart has similar combination as described through the endless list of yoga

The Problem – Even if we manage to memorise all these yogas , most of the times we would realize that they do not work. Lets consider one  of the panch mahapurush yoga , say the ruchaka yoga , Mars in Kendra from moon or lagna will make the native brave , enterprising , rich , intelligent etc , what if this mars is being starved by Saturn, what if the the mars is debilitated in Navamsa, it wont be able to manifest results that it promises – then what is the point in knowing ruchaka yoga , the simpler approach would be to understand the karaktatva of mars , meaning of signs , houses , avasthas , use of vargas etc.. Rather than just memorization of yoga.

The solution – If we study Astrology  in a systematic manner then you would by default understand planetary behavior based on the circumstances and environment that planet is breathing. So approach astrology in a manner that allows you logically dissect a chart , understand planets , signs  based on its dignity and karaktatvas rather than just depend upon few documented planetary combination  without understanding the terms and conditions. Its foolish to even try to justify as to why so and so yoga does not seem to work – Venus in Kendra in exaltation or own house alone cannot confer us great results – if that Venus is not well supported by her friend and disposed well in other Vargas. So please stop glorifying the names , lets think logically and understand the reasons behind it. As Einstein wisely said , “Even a fool can  know but the point is to understand “
